Police arrested a 38-year-old man on sexual assault charges after he was found in bed in Willimantic with a child under 10 years old, police said.
Jose Ingles, of Willimantic, is accused of making the child perform sexual acts with him for about a year, police said. Willimantic police responded to a disturbance call on Nov. 4 reporting he was discovered in bed with the child.
Police arrested Ingles that day on unrelated charges, but after detectives and the Department of Children and Families conducted a month-long investigation, police arrested him on further charges Dec. 12 in the sexual assault case.
Police charged Ingles with first-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a child and illegal sexual contact with a child under 13 years old and criminal attempt at risk of injury to a child and illegal sexual contact with a child under 13.
It's unclear whether Ingles knew the child before the reported incidents.
Police are holding Ingles in custody on a $300,000 cash/surety bond and he is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Dec. 15.
