A pit bull attacked a woman at a Mystic hotel.

A woman is recovering after she was attacked by a pit bull inside a Mystic, Conn., hotel on Sunday afternoon.

According to Stonington police, dispatchers received a call about a woman being attacked by a dog inside the hallway of the Residence Inn by Marriott on Whitehall Avenue.

Responding officers found a woman severely injured and a caretaker struggling to control the pit bull.

One officer stepped in to help and was also attacked by the dog, authorities said. The officer shot the dog in the leg, authorities said.

The victim and officer were taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The wounded pit bull was taken to a veterinarian for treatment.

Stonington police are investigating the incident.

Mystic, the setting for the popular 1980s movie "Mystic Pizza," is a popular tourist destination.

The hotel has not released an official statement. Their website says they allow pets.
