Woman Charged in Crash That Killed Teen Appears in Court

A Cheshire woman who was charged with driving under the influence in connection with the crash that killed a Bethany teen on Christmas appeared in court today and more chaarges are possible.

Barbara Ross, 60, of Cheshire is accused of driving the car that hit Bobby Weidig Jr., 18, of Bethany, as he was walking to a music festival on Route 69 on Christmas, according to police.

She has been charged with driving under the influence and failure to maintain a proper lane change and was in court Thursday to face those charges.

According to Weidig’s friends the Amity Regional High School graduate was walking across the street with his brother when he was hit.

On Thursday, several friends were in court to show support for Bobby.

Rebecca Iannantuoni remembers her son’s best friend as a free spirit and said her son is now considering getting a tattoo in memory in Bobby.

“Just one of those life events that you just wish never occurred for everyone involved,” she said.

More charges against Ross are possible, but the state’s attorney is waiting for police to finish their investigation, which could happen in around three weeks.

Steven Walsh, the attorney for Ross, said his client gives “her sincerest and deepest condolences to the family and friends of Robert Weidig.”

He said the investigation is still ongoing and that his client was on her way home, but did not wanted to get into any details.

Ross is due back in court on Feb 3.
