Carbon Monoxide Deaths Climb

The woman was heating her house with a charcoal grill.

East Hartford police are investigating the death of a 41-year-old woman who was found unresponsive inside of her Burnside Avenue apartment on Wednesday.

The woman was found at 894 Burnside Ave. shortly before noon. A charcoal grill was in her bedroom. Police said she was using it to heat her home.

The woman’s name has not yet been released. Officials are notifying her family.

The apparent carbon monoxide death would be the fourth in Connecticut since a rare October winter storm knocked out power to nearly 1 million customers on Saturday.

A 29-year-old Bloomfield woman died on Tuesday of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Firefighters found a generator running in the basement of her Harding Avenue home.

In Enfield, a woman in her 80s was killed by carbon monoxide from a generator set up just outside her home. The fumes might have entered the home through an eave above where the generator was located, fire officials said.

An 85-year-old man died in Sharon on Tuesday from carbon monoxide poisoning.  A generator was set up properly, but a faulty muffler allowed carbon monoxide to fill the home, police said.

In all there have been eight storm-related deaths in Connecticut.
