A woman was injured early Saturday afternoon when she shot herself with a flare gun at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.

Fire officials say they were originally dispatched to the hospital at 2:21 p.m. for a smoke alarm in an unoccupied loading dock area at the hospital.

But, when firefighters arrived, hospital security said a discharged flare gun that had injured a woman set off the alarm.

The woman, who was not seriously injured, was treated at the hospital. No one else was harmed during the incident, officials said.

The investigation has been turned over to the New London Police Department.
