North Haven Schools Mourn Mom Killed in Hit-and-Run

Police said the woman was walking with her children when she was struck.

A 57-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash while walking with her teenage sons in North Haven on Monday.

Police said Maureen Munzner was walking with her two sons on Ridge Road when she was hit by the driver of a red Ford Fusion around 5:30 p.m. She was pronounced dead a short time later.

Munzner was known in the North Haven school community, where she volunteered and helped with the school theater program.

“The North Haven Public School District is mourning the passing of Mrs. Maureen Munzner. Mrs. Munzner was an active volunteer across the school district. As a member of the PTA and parent community, she has made a lasting impact on our students, staff and community. Mrs. Munzner has also been an integral part of the district’s theater program, most recently working on the beautiful costumes for Beauty and the Beast” Superintendent Patrick Stirk said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with the family at this time and support is available for those impacted by this tragedy.”

The driver of the Ford Fusion fled the scene after the collision, according to officers.

Investigators found and seized the Ford Fusion and the driver has been identified, police said.

The South Central Connecticut Traffic Unit is investigating the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact North Haven police.
