Woman Shot, Killed at Housing Complex

Witnesses said there were no fight or arguments

A woman was shot and killed in an Ansonia housing complex early Wednesday morning and police are looking for a man in a silver mid-sized sedan.

Between six and 12 people were hanging out in the courtyard at the Olson Drive housing complex just before 12:30 a.m. Wednesday when the shots were fired, police said.

One of the shots hit and killed a 39-year-old woman who had been out walking her bike. She was struck in the chest with a single gunshot, police said.

There had been no fights or arguments before the man opened fire, witnesses told police.

“They said this male approached the area, walked around a little bit and as he was leaving, shot into the general area a couple of times,” Lt. Andrew Cota, of the Ansonia Police Department, said. “(He) shot two or three more times after that.”

An officer who was nearby heard the shots and rushed to the scene, where he found the woman.

Police aren’t sure why the shooter fired into the courtyard or if he had an intended target. They are waiting to release the victim’s name until her family has been told.

The victim is the second woman to be killed at the Olson Drive housing complex in two months. Another woman was killed in June when she was stabbed during a fight.
