Customer Stabbed During Attempted Robbery

Hartford police are investigating after a woman was stabbed during an attempted robbery around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday inside the Rite-Aid Pharmacy at 315 Franklin Ave.

The attempted robbery might have ended a lot differently had quick-thinking customers, including Lamonte Barnes, not tried to help.

Barnes helped hold the suspect down on the ground until police arrived.

He was in the drug store and heard someone scream that there was a robbery in progress and saw the manager and suspect in an altercation.

"I just grabbed him, cuffed him up in the air and slammed him to the ground and we just held him as long as we could until police came," Barnes said.

While he and another customer were holding the suspect down, a female customer tried to help. The robber managed to pull out a knife and stab the woman in the leg.

Police and emergency personnel arrived minutes later and rushed the woman to a local hospital. Her condition is unknown.

Barnes said he would have felt bad if he hadn't stepped in. He knows coming back here is going to be difficult.

"Yeah, it might be a real long time, that kinda made me nervous," he said.

A pharmacy employee said he was impressed by the Good Samaritans and that you don't hear about stuff like this happening here all that often.

Police have one man in custody.
