Yale Students Charged After East Rock Rescue

Three firefighters were injured during the rescue.

Two Yale students have been charged after firefighters and police made a rescue from the face of East Rock in New Haven on Thursday afternoon.

Sarah Maslin, a 19-year-old member of the class of 2014, and Peter Kaufman, a 21-year-old member of the class of 2012, were trying to free climb, but Maslin got caught around 3:45 p.m.,the New Haven Independent reports.

Maslin used her cellphone to call for help and three of the firefighters who responded were injured during the rescue. One suffered a compound fracture of his ankle, officials said.

Maslin and Kaufman were each charged with second-degree reckless endangerment and climbing East Rock, which is a violation of a local ordinance.
