Yard Goats Lay Off 4 Front Office Employees

The Hartford Yard Goats have laid off four front-office employees, according to NBC Connecticut sources.

The move comes more than a month after the developer of the baseball stadium where the team is supposed to play missed a deadline to finish the project.

"While it is our policy not to publicly discuss personnel matters, the delays in ballpark construction have forced the team to make difficult decisions," Yard Goats General Manager Tim Restall said in a statement on Friday.

Hartford terminated its contract with Centerplan, the developer that was building the $63 million stadium, earlier this month after the company failed to deliver the completed stadium by May 17 -- a date already a month past the team's opening day.

The Yard Goats have been playing their home games on the road and at Dodd Stadium in Norwich.

There has been no work done on the stadium since the city's decision to separate with Centerplan and there is no guarantee the Yard Goats will play any baseball in Hartford this season.
