Nearly one year after Lois Englehart's son was gunned down on a New Haven street, police arrested the man they say pulled the trigger.
Larry Johnson, 32, a convicted felon was arrested in the October 13, 2011 homicide. Edward Andrew Thompson was shot and killed on the corner of Grand Avenue and Llyod Street in the city's Fair Haven neighborhood.
"I want to thank the police department for working this case," Englehart said.
This is the 15th homicide the city has solved this year, according to police.
Community policing has made a big comeback in New Haven and is being credited for helping to crack the case. Detectives said more people felt comfortable coming forward to give information.
"Between the community and efforts of the police department, yes, that's the result of that," Det. Bertram Etienne said.
In fact, neighbors who live near where the crime happened said that they have seen more police on their street.
Police did not discuss motive in this case, but they did say Johnson and Thomas did not know each other.
While the arrest may bring some comfort to the family, the pain will never go away.
"My whole family will always love my son," Englehart said. "We'll always be there and miss him."
