Crews Pull Stolen Car From Torrington Pond

Emergency crews pulled a stolen car from Stillwater Pond in Torrington, where it was submerged 50 feet from shore Saturday afternoon, according to police and fire officials.

Litchfield County Dispatch received an emergency call around 4 p.m. reporting a car in the water near the dock at Stillwater Pond Boat Launch, located at 800 Norfolk Road in Torrington, according to a dispatcher.

Torrington police and fire officials responded to the scene. The DEEP Environmental Conservation Police, Goshen Dive Team, Torringford Fire Department and Drakeville Fire Department were also called out.

A spokesperson for DEEP said the car was stolen from Norwich. Police at the scene said crews were still searching but didn't find anyone inside the car or in the immediate area.

The vehicle was pulled from the pond around 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
