50 Residents Displaced by Hartford Apartment Fire

Emergency officials are investigating after a fire broke out at 755 Wethersfield Avenue in Hartford and the building was evacuated Sunday morning, police said.

Fire officials at the scene said the flames started in a car parked beneath the building and spread three other vehicles.

Authorities shut down power to the building as a precaution so inspectors could check electrical cables wired into the ceiling above the site of the fire, according to firefighters.

As a result, 50 residents have been temporarily displaced. Everyone was safely evacuated from the building and a city emergency services bus was brought to the scene so residents could keep warm while they waited to reenter their apartments.

Fire officials said damage to the building was minimal and no apartments were affected.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
