Lee Whitnum to Run for Governor

Lee Whitnum, a former U.S. Senate and House candidate known for strongly criticizing U.S. ties with Israel, says she's now running as a Democratic candidate for governor.

Whitnum recently announced her plans on a website, promising to "clean up the judiciary in Connecticut" and "give folks the right to fire dishonest and corrupt judges."

The Greenwich candidate is currently the only Democrat officially running for governor. Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has yet to announce his re-election plans.

In the 2012 Senate race, Whitnum was condemned by fellow Democrats for calling now-Sen. Chris Murphy a "whore" because of his support of Israel. Whitnum said she was "flabbergasted" Murphy didn't understand her positions.

Whitnum has been at odds with Malloy, suing him in 2010 for calling comments she made anti-Semitic.
