March for Babies Comes to East Hartford and New Haven

Thousands headed to East Hartford and New Haven this morning to suppport healthy babies in the nation’s oldest walk fundraiser, the March of Dimes March for Babies.

Registration began at 9 a.m. at Rentschler Field, 615 Silver Lane in East Hartford and Lighthouse Point Park, 2 Lighthouse Road in New Haven. The walks began at 10 a.m.

The inaugural Run for Babies took place prior to the walk at Rentschler. Registration opened at 7 a.m. and the run kicked off at 8 a.m.

The March of Dimes said 4,000 walkers and 150 runners turned out in East Hartford and more than 1,000 walkers headed to New Haven.

The runners in East Hartford raised nearly $300,000, according to a release from the March of Dimes.

NBC Connecticut’s own Bob Maxon emceed the walk in East Hartford.

The March of Dimes is a nonprofit organization that works to promote the health of babies through research, education and vaccines.
