Fire Destroys Naugatuck Businesses

Fire crews putting out hot spots several hours after an early morning fire in Naugatuck that started at a manufacturing company.

The fire broke out around 2 a.m. at 550 Spring Street in a building that houses two tenants, Multi-Metal Manufacturing and yogurt manufacturer Yo Crunch.

It took more than a dozen firefighters to get the flames under control and two firefighters were taken to the hospital for minor injuries according to fire officials.

Employees working at Yo Crunch were in the middle of making crunch toppings and unaware of the fire, "My formant came in and told us to leave the building. As we came out the blaze was in the front of the building. We work in the back so we really don't know what happened," Yo Crunch employee Anthony Carmack said of the situation.

The Naugatuck fire chief said the building is a total loss.
