Mailbox Baseball Delivers Anger

Despite the mailman’s mantra of getting your mail to you through rain and snow, that doesn’t include baseball bat-toting vandals in Guilford.

Forty mailboxes were damaged sometime between Friday night and Sunday in the Long Hill area of town, the New Haven Register reports.

“It seemed like a one-night, one-time thing, said Police Chief Thomas Terribile, who believes the damage was probably done with a baseball bat. “It seems like kids that don’t have their drivers’ licenses and have nothing better to do on a nice summer evening and aren’t being supervised. There’s no evidence of a car running into it.”

About two years ago, a group of youths were caught damaging dozens of mailboxes and were required to pay for the repairs.
