Passenger Plane Crashes in Taiwan in Stormy Weather

At least 40 people were killed in Taiwan when a TransAsia Airways plane crashed during an emergency landing, Taiwan's Central News Agency said. Seven people were injured, the head of the fire department in the Taiwanese county of Penghu told the news outlet, The Associated Press reported. Local media said the flight was traveling from Kaohsiung to Makung during stormy weather in the wake of Typhoon Matmo. There were conflicting reports about the number of dead and injured. China's Xinhua news agency said 40 people died, but Taiwan's Transport Minister Yeh Kuang-shih said 47 people were trapped and feared dead.
