BLM Activist DeRay Mckesson Sues Baton Rouge for Mass Arrests

Mckesson’s arrest on July 9 was caught on a live stream with Periscope

Black Lives Matter activist DeRay Mckesson filed a lawsuit against the city of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Thursday for alleged excessive force by police after he and more than 100 protesters were arrested last month, NBC News reported.

Mckesson’s arrest on July 9 was caught on a live stream with Periscope. He was protesting the shooting death of Alton Sterling.

He was released from the East Baton Rouge Parish jail the following day. The “simple obstruction of highway commerce” charges against Mckesson and the others were later dropped.

The class action suit said it will seek damages for civil rights violations for the “unlawful mass arrests” police made without probable cause. The suit added that some of those arrested are apprehended on sidewalks, grass and residents’ homes.
