Hundreds of Pigs Die in Indianapolis Crash

Fire officials say about 700 pigs died from the crash

Officials say hundreds of young pigs died after a semitrailer overturned on an Indianapolis highway ramp.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Rich Myers says the semi was going too fast on a ramp from Interstate 465 to Interstate 74 on the city's west side Thursday night.

The Wayne Township Fire Department says the semi was hauling about 2,000 pigs from North Carolina to Iowa. Crews removed surviving pigs and took them to the Indiana State Fairgrounds until another truck could retrieve them.

Fire officials say about 700 pigs died from the crash.

The semi driver and a passenger weren't hurt. The ramp was closed for hours while the pigs and the semi were removed.
