Senator Harry Reid Suing Exercise Equipment Company Over Lost Vision

Sen. Harry Reid, who used a flexible exercise band that caused him to suffer face, rib and eye injuries, is suing the company that markets the product.

The Senate minority leader from Nevada is seeking more than $50,000 in damages from Thera-Band maker Hygienic Intangible Property Holding Co., The Hygienic Corp. and Performance Health LLC.

The lawsuit states that the elastic resistive exercise band is "defective (and) unreasonably dangerous" for the elderly who might have trouble gripping it without handles. It alleges negligence, liability and failure to warn consumers about "dangers that may result from the use or foreseeable misuse."

As a result of the injury, Reid, 75, said he has lost his vision after the accident.
