Turkey F-16s Intercept Russia Warplane After Airspace Violation

Turkish officials said a Russian warplane “violated” its airspace, NBC News reported.

Officials said the plane was flying near the Syrian border and was intercepted by two F-16 jets on Monday.

The country’s Foreign Ministry contacted Moscow’s ambassador to protest the incident, according to a statement. Turkey urged Russia not to repeat such a violation.

Russia began airstrikes in Syria on Wednesday. President Vladimir Putin said his goal was to target ISIS.
