3,008 Layoff Notices So Far

More than 1,100 notices went out in the last week.

As state employee unions meet to decide on a revote for the concessions deal, thousands of layoff notices have gone out.

Since June 1, Gov. Dannel Malloy’s office has sent out 3,008 layoff notices to state employees, and 1,157 have been distributed since last week.

Most of the affected employees so far are in the state Department of Transportation, where 499 people have received notices.

Layoffs are being staggered. They began on June 27 and continue through Jan. 12, 2012; 158 people have been laid off so far and 1,872 are expected to be laid off on Aug. 22.

Malloy’s office has notified 447 people from the judicial branch that they will be laid off, 443 from the Department of Developmental Services, 263 from the state Department of Correction, 233 from the Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services and several from additional agencies and departments.
