The attorney general's the man who files lawsuits against those who do wrong to Connecticut, now Richard Blumenthal’s former foe wants to settle a suit she brought against him.
Martha Dean, who unsuccessfully ran as a republican against Blumenthal in 2002, wants the AG to lift a ban he imposed on campaign contributions law firms make to attorney general candidates.
Dean says Blumenthal’s ban, which he suspended a week before the 2002 election, effectively eliminated thousands of potential contributors to her campaign.
Blumenthal sees things differently and claims the ban was to protect the integrity of the office.
Dean says she's ready to take her case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, but Blumenthal says there’s no apparent reason or benefit for the state to settle with Dean considering two federal courts saw no merit to her lawsuit.
Now, eight years after that campaign, Blumenthal is beginning a new chapter in his career.
Blumenthal said he plans to run for the Senate seat Connecticut’s senior Senator, Chris Dodd, is vacating.
