Bridgeport City Site Cyber Attacked

The "hacked by" line is what remained Tuesday afternoon of what hackers left behind.

A group of Iranian hackers appears to be responsible for placing cyber graffiti on Bridgeport's official city Web site

It first appeared Monday, when Mayor Bill Finch's picture was surrounded by the words "Hacked by KiAnPhP from Iran."

The hackers were able to breach the security of the server maintained by SWB Consulting, the company that hosts the city's Web site, the Connecticut Post reports.

The cyber graffiti also contained the words, "In the name of Cyrus the Great," an apparent reference to a Persian King.

The city worked to get most of the graffiti off the Web site by Monday afternoon, but there were still signs of some smaller issues on the site's news update scroll early Tuesday, and in the options list on either side of the web page.

The city says the hackers never gained access to information on the site.

"There was no sensitive information that's stored on our Web site that anyone was able to get hold of," Bridgeport spokesperson Elaine Ficarra told the paper.
