Elections officials are investigating Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz, and whether she illegally spent thousands of dollars in campaign cash after being ruled ineligible to run for attorney general.
The Hartford Courant reports the State Elections Enforcement Commission decided to look into the issue last week.
In May, the State Supreme Court ruled Bysiewicz didn't meet the requirements to run for attorney general, so she dropped out of the race. The Courant reports Bysiewicz continued to spend campaign money after the May 18 ruling.
Some of the money was spent on at least seven parties for Democrats, the paper reports. Bysiewicz says the parties were to thank supporters, according to the Courant.
Bysiewicz's senior campaign adviser, Bob Martino, told the paper he doesn't believe the campaign violated state law.
