Local GOP Chairman Could Go National

The state's Republican Party leader might be looking for a promotion.

Connecticut GOP Chairman Chris Healy is talking about a possible run for Chairman of the Republican National Committee. Michael Steele currently holds the job and Republicans are looking for someone to challenge him after some high-profile gaffes and questions about finances.

"I think I can give the RNC what it needs over the next two years," Healy told Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call. "I don't have any confidence that the current management can get it done."

Healy has been chairman of the Connecitcut GOP since 2007 and is the current chairman of the RNC's Northeast Chairs. The RNC will elect a chairman in January and Steele is expected to seek a second term.

Healy has not announced a formal run, but is highlighting his work as a fundraiser, a traditional role for the national committee chief.

"I've shown I can grind money out of a stone and actually get a lot for it," he said.
