Defense Tries to Show Ex-Governor Rowland Did Real Work

An executive for a nursing home company has testified that former Connecticut Gov. John Rowland did legitimate consulting work.

Brian Bedard, the key defense witness, testified on Tuesday that he did not believe "for a split second" that Rowland's contract with Apple Heath Care was a sham.

Rowland faces seven federal charges. He is accused of conspiring to hide payments for work he did on the 2012 congressional campaign of Lisa Wilson-Foley through the consulting deal with Apple, which is owned by her husband.

Rowland says he did legitimate work for the company while volunteering for the campaign.

Bedard, the company's executive vice president, went over meetings and email exchanges he had with Rowland on topics such as the government's plans to close nursing homes.
