Democrat Supporting McMahon Targeted

It’s the season of egg throwing with Halloween right around the corner.

At least that’s what New Haven Alderman Darnell Goldson thought when he saw his front door covered in egg yolks. That is until he saw that his Linda McMahon sign on his front lawn was ripped to shreds.

"The Dan Malloy sign was untouched," explained Goldson. "The Linda McMahon sign was mangled. I’m making an assumption but I think people didn’t like the Linda McMahon sign and they didn’t like that I was supporting McMahon."

A registered Democrat, Goldson says he’s been taking heat from constituents and from fellow aldermen since he announced he was supporting Republican Linda McMahon’s Senate bid. He says the he was pleased that McMahon met with him for several hours to discuss her platform and thinks she is the best person for the job.

"I’m one person with one vote, with one opinion, and I don’t know why it’s driving people nuts that I would do this," said Goldson.

Neighbors shook there heads as they drove by the torn up sign. Some said they don’t support McMahon but they support Goldson’s decision to vote for her.

"Everyone is an individual," said Diane Prince. "No one has the right to go on someone else’s private property and tear down a sign."

Goldson says he reported the incident to police who told him they will be keeping a close eye on his house to see if someone does it again.

The alderman says he plans to replace the sign as soon as possible.
