Tom Foley said he can't release records from a 1981 arrest because the court did not keep them.
Foley, the endorsed Republican candidate for governor, issued a statement Friday saying his attorneys contacted the Southampton, N.Y., court about unsealing records from a car accident in which Foley drove into some parked cars.
Foley said his attorneys were told the court does not retain records of unprosecuted cases prior to 1991 and there is no record of his case.
Foley said he does not recall the actual charge, which was later dropped, but says it was a minor traffic incident. The Hartford Courant has reported that he was charged with attempted first-degree assault.
The Greenwich businessman was arrested in 1993 following a dispute with his former wife. That case was also dropped.
