People Unhappy With Election Results Seek Out Psychological Help

Is the result of the 2016 Presidential Election causing an increase in people seeking mental health?

According to a spokesperson for the online telemedicine service Doctor on Demand, that platform saw a 28 percent uptick in the number of psychology visits scheduled this week compared with the last.

Post-election stress is a real thing.

NBC News earlier reported psychologist Dr. Jeff Temple, of the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, noted for some people unhappy with the outcome, "It's going to take some time."

"Compare it to grieving," Temple said.

Just as there's a process to grieving, there's a process to accepting unwelcome elections results, Temple said.

“The best thing we can do is accepting the results and figuring out a way to channel that energy into something positive — local politics, volunteering,” Temple said. “Accept that there is going to be some post-election misery.”
