Former President Bill Clinton Rallies Connecticut Democrats

Former President Bill Clinton met a crowd of 300 in New Haven on Tuesday, where he appeared to help raise money for Democrats.

Clinton appeared at a rally at the Omni New Haven Hotel alongside Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, who are seeking re-election in November.

"Based on what he has done, he should be reelected by 10 points or more," Clinton said, adding that Connecticut's new gun laws, increased numbers in Pre-K and the state's implementation of the ACA show why Malloy should stay in office.

"Are the people better off than when you started? Do children have a brighter future? Are things being put together or are they being torn apart?" Clinton said. "By this test, this man has more than earned the chance to finish a job he started four years ago."

Malloy attacked his GOP opponent, Tom Foley, saying he's done more to insult Connecticut as a state than he has attacked Malloy, his adversary.

"You don't put down the state that I was born in. You don't put down the state that you live in," Malloy said. "You don't put down the state that we're raising our children in. Connecticut is a great state and we're going to prove that on Election Day."

Foley responded by saying the governor hasn't lived up to his promises and that Connecticut is lagging behind in job growth and education.

"I'm talking about Gov. Malloy's record, and he doesn't like it because he subscribes to what I call 'Malloy Math,' where he makes up the numbers," Foley said. "He's trying to present a rosier picture than what's really going on in Connecticut."

U.S. Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy were also on hand for the event, which began at 11:30 a.m.

Tickets were available online for $50 each, according to an email sent to Democratic supporters last week. The ticket order form says money raised at the event will be used "in connection with federal elections."
