The race for Connecticut’s 4th District is filling up and the battle to get to Washington could be an energetic one. Some rather young candidates are running.

Democrat Jim Himes, 43, is being challenged by a 34-year-old Democrat and a 24-year-old Republican.

Republican state Sen. Dan Debicella, 34, of Shelton, is the latest candidate to enter the race. On Monday, he submitted documents to the secretary of the state's office to challenge Himes.

Debicella is an assistant vice president of marketing at The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. He's in his second term in the Legislature and has been leading opposition against majority Democrats' plans to raise taxes.

Will Gregory, 24, of New Canaan, is the Republican candidate, and so far is the youngest.

Himes won his first term last year by beating longtime incumbent Republican Rep. Christopher Shays.
