Sunday Liquor Sales Supporters Use Humor in Campaign

The End Blue Laws Coalition created the “You Can’t Buy That Today” video.

A group fighting to end the Blue Laws that prohibit stores from selling alcohol on Sundays in Connecticut is using humor to make its case.

The one-minute video starts with a man trying to buy florescent light bulbs, only to be turned away.

“Yeah, I can only sell fluorescents on Monday,” the clerk said.

Then, the customer is told he cannot buy cookie mix on Tuesdays or toilet paper on Wednesdays.

"I got all the way down there and they can't sell me toilet paper. It’s against the law,” the man said.

The End Blue Laws Coalition created the “You Can’t Buy That Today” video and asks people who view it to reach out to state lawmakers.

Gov. Dannel Malloy is proposing to allow liquor sales on Sundays a Legislative committee is expected to take up the governor's proposal on Tuesday.

Some package store owners oppose the legislation because they believe it will put their stores out of business.
