Positive Reaction to TSA Screening Changes for Kids

Local travelers are giving positive feedback to federal officials changing the airport security rules for children age 12 and under.

The changes comes after some parents were outraged earlier this year after seeing several online videos showing children getting patted down at airport security. Instead of pat-downs, that opponents called groping, children will be allowed to go through the metal detector or scanner multiple times and they'll be able to keep their shoes on.

Rosemary Rheaume, of Waterford, travels with her grandchildren and thinks the changes are a good idea.

"My granddaughter was traumatized enough when they put her teddy bear through the scanner," Rheaume said.

Tatum Krause, of Enfield, travels with her two children, who are under the age of 5. Safety is her number one priority, she said.

“I don't mind if they have to take their shoes off. The pat-down, I don't know. I don't enjoy it myself, but I think I'd rather be safe than be concerned about whether their shoes are on or off as they go through."
