A Fiesta for UConn

The UConn Huskies will celebrate the New Year in Glendale, Arizona.

Coach Randy Edsall and the team learned Sunday that they will face the Oklahoma Sooners in the Fiesta Bowl Jan. 1.

It is the first-ever BCS Bowl bid for the Huskies, who earned the bid with a win over the University of South Florida on Saturday night.

Kicker Dave Teggart hit a 52-yard field goal with 17 seconds remaining in the game to give UConn (8-4) the win and the invitation to the Fiesta Bowl.

The history-making trip to Glendale was anything but a sure thing as the season started for the Huskies. The team lost to Temple, Rutgers and Louisville early, before getting big wins against Vanderbilt, West Virginia and Pittsburgh. UConn shares the Big East title with the WVU and Pitt.

The Sooners (11-2) got their bid to the Fiesta Bowl by winning the Big 12 conference with a win over Nebraska Saturday.
