Brianna Banks to Transfer

We can honestly say we didn't see this coming. UConn announced Tuesday that junior guard Brianna Banks was leaving the program. The 5-9 guard from Newnan, Ga., who played sparingly during her Huskies career, will transfer.

“I decided to transfer because I feel like I need a fresh start somewhere closer to home,” Banks said in a statement released by the university. “I really appreciate all that my teammates, coaches, and the university have done for me and I will miss everyone at UConn dearly.”

“Brianna showed great heart during her time with us, whether it was on the floor or during the rehab process,” coach Geno Auriemma said. “I wish Brianna nothing but the best in the future.”

During her three years in Storrs, Banks appeared in 90 games and averaged 14 minutes, 4.4 points, 1.4 rebounds.

The Huskies' 2014 class includes Gabby Williams (5-11, Nevada), Sadie Edwards (5-9, New Jersey), Courtney Ekmark (6-0, Arizona) and Kia Nurse (5-11, Canada). And the 2015 class has already received oral commitments from Napheesa Collier, De’Janae Boykin, and the nation's best player, Katie Lou Samuelson, in addition to 6-5 Georgetown transfer Natalie Butler.
