Darius Butler's Mission: Stop the Dougie

It was one of the lowest lows of New England Patriots cornerback Darius Butler's 2010 season. Butler did not just get burned for two long pass interference penalties and a touchdown in the Patriots' Week 2 loss to the New York Jets.

He was also subjected to receiver Braylon Edwards doing "The Dougie" in his face.

"The Dougie" is a dance move popularized by 1980s rapper Doug E. Fresh. It's kind of like a guy swiveling his hips while he pretends to rub hair mousse all over his upper torso.

Edwards was penalized 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct for the touchdown dance.

Darius Butler, who played his college ball at UConn, hasn't started a game again since, but he's dug his way out of the slump. "That doesn’t matter,” Butler told the Boston Globe. “It’s Two 9-2 teams going at it. It’s a big game. That’s all we’re looking at. It’s a division game. There’s a lot more important things than him dancing."

Edwards has six receiving touchdowns on the year for the Jets, good for an eight-way tie for sixth place among all NFL receivers.

Joe Kukura is a freelance writer who suspects Braylon Edwards just got a lot more interested in drinking Mylanta.
