ESPN Inspired Bristol Palin’s Name

Bristol Palin helped put Bristol, Conn. on the map. Or maybe ESPN did. Either way, now we know.
What's in a name? Former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin says her daughter's comes from the town of Bristol, Conn.
In an issue of Esquire magazine that hits newsstands Feb. 16, Palin says that when she was in high school, she wanted to be a sportscaster and was disappointed to learn where ESPN was located.
The Alaska governor says Connecticut was too far away. So instead, she says, she named her daughter Bristol. Of course.
It’s a good thing ESPN isn't in Barkhamsted, Conn., because – well, Barkhamsted Palin would be a pretty awful name.
Palin says she's still angry with the media over questions about whether her 9-month-old son, Trig, is actually the child of 18-year-old Bristol.
When the McCain campaign announced in September that Bristol was pregnant, it was in part to end rumors about Trig. it is still unclear if Trig is named for a high school math class.
Bristol's son Tripp was born in December.
