This weekend is all about basketball in Connecticut.

On Saturday, the UConn men face Michigan State in Detroit. On Sunday, the University of Connecticut women take the court against Stanford in St. Louis.

Gov. M. Jodi Rell has declared the weekend “UConn Huskies Blue & White Weekend,” and she wants those of us who can't make it to one of the big games to wear blue and white and show our support for UConn basketball.

“Although most of us will not be in Detroit or St. Louis to cheer on the Huskies, we can certainly do our part in showing our unwavering support for them right here in Connecticut," Rell said.

If the men or ladies advance to the national championship game, UConn Huskies Blue and White weekend will extend past Sunday. (You'll have to go to work Monday, whether or not they win.)

Rell has even offered suggestions to show your Husky pride:

  • Wear your favorite UConn gear (or anything blue and white)
  • Pin a blue and white ribbon on your lapel or display a large ribbon on your home’s front door or mailbox
  • Put a sign in your window or front yard
  • Fly a UConn flag outside your home
  • Go to your local florist to get a blue and white flower arrangement for your home

Rell has urged Connecticut businesses to get in on the action, and display UConn banners outside their companies.

Or you could go around yelling Go Huskies! or singing the UConn fight song. If you don't remember it, or didn't go to UConn, you can find the lyrics on the UConn alumni page.

If you're looking to catch the game this weekend, both games will be televised.  Local sports bars are hoping to cash in, and try to lure fans on the big screens.
