The first round of the Travelers Championship featured the first hole-in-one of this year's tournament.
David Mathis aced the 158-yard par-3 11th hole.
It was part of a run that saw Mathis open his round with a birdie on the 10th and tie for the lead at 6-under through his first six holes.
Will Claxton and Nathan Green had the early clubhouse lead, shooting 5-under 65s. Green began his round at 6:50 a.m., well before the temperatures climbed into the 90s.
The group getting the most attention on Thursday was comprised of the last three major championship winners. U.S. Open champion Webb Simpson, Masters champ Bubba Watson and PGA champion Keegan Bradley were greeted by galleries five and six spectators deep at the first tee.
