Show your team support and donate food Thursday.
It’s the age-old question: In the greatest rivalry in sports, who has the most die-hard fans -- the Yankees or the Red Sox?
Thursday, it all comes down to who is more charitable.
The West Haven Emergency Assistance Taskforce is one of a few local charities to capitalize on sports fans' passion. It is challenging fans of the Sox and Bombers to donate food to the local food pantry. They’ll be keeping track of how many pounds of food come from each group of fans.
“Whatever fan base brings in the most donations, we are going to give them bragging rights for the best fans in West Haven,” Phil Liscio, who helped organize the food drive, said.
If the bragging rights aren’t enough to get people down, every donation will qualify for a raffle prize of two tickets to see the Yankees and Red Sox play at Yankee Stadium in August.
To show your support and give your team an edge, drop by Super Stop & Shop on Elm Street.
They needs peanut butter and jelly, cereal, tuna fish, pasta, pasta sauces, canned stew, hash, canned fruit and canned tomatoes.
This is not the only local charity to play on sports fans' team loyalty to their favorite baseball team. The local National Public Radio station ran a similar campaign Wednesday.
