Lawrence Taylor was a great linebacker, but paralegal, he is not.

The NFL Hall of Famer told CBS4 that he had every right to flee the scene of an accident on the Palmetto Expressway on Sunday when he crashed into a motorist and kept on trucking despite having a severely damaged vehicle.

Taylor's Cadillac Escalade had three flat tires, no brakes, and heavy damage to one side but he claims he's not even sure he was in an accident.

"I'm not even sure if I hit a vehicle," Taylor said. "I don't know. I don't know what I hit."

Police arrested Taylor and charged him with fleeing the scene and careless driving and he was released from Miami-Dade jail on $500 bond, a "ridiculous" amount according to the former linebacker.

Taylor said he swerved to miss one vehicle and that's when he possibly, inadvertently nudged the back of Manuel Castillo's van. Castillo wasn't injured but his van suffered close to $10,00 in damage, police estimated.

Taylor didn't stop, however, and drove to the next exit before his vehicle could take no more punishment. But don't mistake his actions for running like QBs did when they saw him coming off the edge.

"You don't have to stay on 826, a busy and dangerous highway where there is 2 feet, maybe 3 feet of room in the outside lane," said Taylor. "There's no way I was going to stay put. There is no way I was going to stop."

"What was I running from? I would have to be the dumbest criminal in the world to do this on 3 wheels and no brake."

The jury is still out on that one, LT.

For future reference, if you do get hit by Taylor, just know he's not sticking around.

"If you see me in an accident, don't look for me right there, look for me at the next exit, because that's where I'll be," Taylor said. "That's where it's safe."
