McCourty on DeflateGate: ‘We Don't Care'

Patriots safety Devin McCourty didn't mince words when he was asked about the mini-scandal.

DeflateGate enters Day 2 and it remains mostly a non-story. In case you missed it, a quick recap: An early Monday morning report alleged that the NFL is investigating the Patriots for deflating footballs during Sunday's 45-7 whipping of the the Colts in the AFC Championship Game.

In case you're wondering, deflated footballs are easy to catch and throw. And because each team provides officials with their own footballs, the Colts' offense wouldn't benefit from the Patriots' (alleged) deflated footballs.

Meanwhile, the news came as a surprise to participants on both sides. Quarterback Tom Brady called the report "ridiculous," while coach Bill Belichick said the Patriots will cooperate with the league's investigation. Colts coach Chuck Pagano conceded that he didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

“Did not notice, and that’s something for the league to handle. It’s not my place to comment on it,” he said.

Patriots safety Devin McCourty didn't mince words when he was asked about the mini-scandal.

"We don't care about it," he said. "We put so much work into going out there and giving ourselves a chance to win and to go out there and win big games that we won Sunday. Whatever they want to create, that's for everyone else. We don't care."

In case you're wondering, the NFL rulebook states: "If any individual alters the footballs, or if a non-approved ball is used in the game, the person responsible and, if appropriate, the head coach or other club personnel will be subject to discipline, including but not limited to, a fine of $25,000."
