Maritime Aquarium Seal Picks Super Bowl Winner

Polly the seal’s friends have not had any luck picking the winner of the Super Bowl, but today it was her turn.

Much to the disappointment of many New Englanders, Polly's pick went to the Seattle Seahawks.

Polly, a 27-year-old Harbor Seal at the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk, is trained to leap straight out of the water and touch a suspended yellow ball with her nose, but today she picked between pennants for the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks.

"They do have a thick blubber layer – often mistaken for linebackers," joked Maritime Aquarium animal trainer Ellen Riker. "I did hear that Polly was up last night watching video.

Everyone is weighing in on “deflategate,” and Maritime Aquarium notes that both yellow balls were measured in advance to be sure that they’re not under-inflated.

While it’s fun to watch, the Maritime seals have a better record of entertaining guests at the aquarium than picking which team will get the Lombardi trophy.

To date, they are 0-3. Rasal picked New England over the New York Giants in 2012 and Orange chose the 49ers over Baltimore in 2013 and the Denver Broncos over the Seahawks in 2014.

That may be good news for Patriots fans!
