The Huskies are a team in transition. They're not necessarily rebuilding, but with Ryan Boatright headed for the NBA, and an upperclassman leadership void, coach Kevin Ollie has his work cut out for him.
Freshman point guard Jalen Adams will help immediately, and the hope is that Sterling Gibbs can do the same -- with the added bonus of the veteran leadership me mentioned above. Gibbs announced last week that he's leaving Seton Hall to play his fifth year elsewhere. According to 247 Sports, elsewhere will be UConn.
The 6-2 combo guard averaged 16.7 points per game last season to go along with 3.8 assists. He also led the Big East in three-point shooting percentage (45).
Gibbs began his college career at Texas before transferring to Seton Hall. Last season was a rocky one for Seton Hall; the Pirated finished 16-15, the locker room was reportedly unsettled, and Gibbs was suspended two games for hitting Villanova's Ryan Arcidiacono in the face with his forearm.
"We didn't want to do this, but it was just a tough situation,"Gibbs' father, Temple Gibbs, told the Asbury Park Press. "It was something he felt he had to do for his state of mind."
Gibbs would join 6-7 Shonn Miller as the Huskies' second transfer this offseason. Miller played previously at Cornell, and he will also use his fifth year of eligibility in Storrs.
