Tonight, It's UConn vs. UConn

The basketballs teams will include both men and women.

A UConn versus UConn showdown will take place tonight when the men’s and women’s basketball programs team up for the first inter-squad scrimmage in school history.

The scrimmage is scheduled to take place tonight at “First Night,” the university’s annual basketball season tip-off.

Men and women players will be on both teams and will either be coached by Head Coach Geno Auriemma of the women’s basketball team or Head Coach Kevin Ollie of the men’s team.

Husky fans took to the UConn Huskies Facebook page to place their bets on which coach they predict will come out on top.

While both men’s and women’s fans were represented on the page’s comment thread, the majority of commentators speculate the 28-year veteran and eight-time national title winner, Auriemma, will take the win.

Fans were split on which team to root for, but one thing they all agreed on was that the event is sure to be a good time.

Commenters described the event as a great exemplification of school pride, and many have said that they have been waiting a while for a scrimmage like this.

“This is such a great Idea,” Facebook user Ron Roppo said. “What a better way to introduce both team than this?”

Prize giveaways, team introductions and live performances from four UConn bands will also be featured at “First Night.”

The doors to Gampel Pavilion will open at 6 p.m. and the showdown will begin around 7 p.m.

The main event will be preceded by a FanFest on Fairfield Way, and autograph signings, which are scheduled to take place from 6 p.m. until 6:45 p.m.
