Few things can make a high school basketball player feel pressure like a 3-point deficit with 4 seconds to go – unless you’re Sarah Royals.
The score was 55-58 with 4 seconds left on the clock when Royals gets the ball. She makes it just past half court and then makes a leap and a Hail Mary pass – right into the basket .
She’s also fouled as she’s making the shot. With a swish, that too reaches its destination.
Moments after the amazing victory, the Waterbury Republican-American interviews Royals, who sounds like she accomplished nothing more than an average play.
“It’s kind of like, go big or go home,” she told the Republican American after the game.
Go big she did. Now her story is on the front page of Yahoo and she is, no doubt, on her way toward becoming a YouTube star.
Unlike Royals, coach Mike Fritch was amazed by what happened.
"Talk about having God on my side. How the heck did we do that? We got lucky; how does that ball go in? I've never seen this in my career," he told the Republican American.
Royals has been nominated for the McDonald’s High School All-American team and she’s earned a full scholarship to play at University of Albany next year, according to The Connecticut Spirit.
