UConn Climbs Past Mountaineers

Jeff Adrien scored 17 points and No. 5 Connecticut beat No. 25 West Virginia 61-55 on Tuesday night.
Hasheem Thabeet added 13 points and 13 rebounds for Connecticut (13-1, 2-1 Big East). With the victory, Huskies coach Jim Calhoun moved past Lefty Driesell into seventh place on the NCAA career wins list with 787.
Neither team led by more than four points until Thabeet's inside basket put the Huskies ahead 52-47 with six minutes left.
West Virginia was outrebounded 52-33 and managed just three field goals over the final eight minutes. Stanley Robinson led UConn with 15 rebounds. UConn freshman Kemba Walker chipped in with 10 points and 8 rebounds.
Da'Sean Butler and Alex Ruoff scored 13 apiece for West Virginia (11-3, 1-1), which saw its five-game winning streak snapped and lost for the first time at home this season.
