UConn alum Melissa Gonzalez and her U.S. field hockey teammates made the most of their opportunity to even their record at the Olympics on Tuesday.
The team beat Argentina 1-0. It's the same opponent Team USA beat to secure a spot in the London Games.
The U.S. lost its first game Sunday against Germany 2-1.
Gonzalez, scored a pivotal goal in the game that guaranteed Team USA a spot in the Olympics. She was a two-time All American at UConn. This is her first Olympic appearance.
Something to watch for the field hockey games is creating a buzz in London. For the first time in Olympic history, field hockey is being played on a blue field. In hopes of making the game easier to watch for spectators, the decision was made to change from green turn and a white ball to blue turf and a yellow ball.
